Generally, the mommy makeover is requested after unwanted changes in the body are due to pregnancy, commonly the breasts and tummy. However, the granny makeover request, actually a misnomer, is simply due to unwanted changes caused by aging. Patients may vary widely, both in age and problem areas seeking attention. So, let’s discuss problem areas most mentioned for this type of rejuvenation makeover. Of course, the face is frequently the first area for concern, including a facelift, to correct sagging jowls, or upper eyelids to correct sagging lids. Body concerns include saggy belly, legs and arms, when diet and exercise is not enough. Although not usually regarded as a granny makeover, cosmetic surgery at any age is well-accepted now, without stigma or judgement. Elective cosmetic surgery is often met with a boost in self-esteem, confidence and well- being. Age is just a number!

Are Mommy Makeovers Still a Thing? Many will agree that having children is one of the most rewarding experiences a mother may have. Yet, the physical effects of pregnancy, especially multiple pregnancies, can leave some women with unwanted and unflattering changes to the body. A complete Mommy Makeover is a combination of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) using body sculpting techniques of the abdomen to tighten stretched muscles and flatten the tummy and restoring breasts to pre-pregnancy size and shape (enlargement, reduction, lift). I do not recommend having both surgeries done at the same time to allow for full recovery in between procedures. My patients are about 50/50 in choosing which surgery to do first and some are even satisfied with electing to only do the initial surgery.
The goal of this post-partum surgery is restore changes that occur in anatomy following pregnancy, when diet and exercise are ineffective. Yes, Mommy Makeovers are still popular for patients considering this type of restorative cosmetic surgery. My patients report being very happy with their decision to have this surgery.
