Breast Surgery Tops 2012 Procedures

March 18th, 2013

Breast surgery returns to the top of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for 2012.  According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), more  than 330,000 women chose to have cosmetic breast surgery, making it the most popular surgery again.  It replaces liposuction, which comes in a close second with over 300,000 procedures performed last year.  The remaining top 5 for cosmetic surgery trends include abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty or nose jobs.  In my own practice, I have also seen more interest in facial rejuvenation, as well.

I agree, because during initial consultations, patients often bring in a celebrity photo to show me what they want to look like after cosmetic surgery.   While many aspects of cosmetic surgery rely on proportion, bone structure and symmetry of the patient, having a photo is useful for me to understand a patient’s expectations.
