Dr. Bashioum’s interview about cosmetic surgery for toes is in the Star Tribune today. The article by Kristin Tillotson appears in the Lifestyle section for the Aug. 9, 2012 issue of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Dr. Ralph Bashioum, a Wayzata cosmetic surgeon who has been practicing for more than 30 years, hasn’t heard of an uptick in such requests in the Twin Cities, but said that “people can be sensitive about any aspect of their appearance. It can happen with all parts of the body, and they will seek out offers to change what they’re sensitive about.”

Tummy Tightening

Arguably, the cornerstone of the “Mommy Makeover” is a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Women are often concerned about their abdomen, as well as their breasts after pregnancy.   The natural growth of the baby within the uterus pushes the abdominal wall forward, stretching both the skin and the muscles.   The separation of the rectus muscles is known as a diastasis recti. Hernias of the groin and belly button can also occur.  Much of the distortion goes away after delivery, but extra skin and muscle weakness often remains. For some women this is a concern.
