Nose Surgery Series

Dr. Bashioum’s patient, describes why she wants a new nose. Jessie writes: Why am I going through with this rhinoplasty or nose job procedure? I found numerous sources that say the nose has the greatest impact of defining ones appearance. I hate looking at my side profile in pictures. I request to be placed in the center of pictures to avoid standing in profile; otherwise I can guarantee that I will hate the picture. I want to make the appearance and the proportion of my nose better, allowing me to be more confident with my appearance. I am doing it to achieve a nicer profile to boost my self-confidence by feeling better about my appearance. I am twenty-nine years old and have worked a second job for the past two years to save for things I want and this nose job is something I want, because I have really hated my side profile for years. My dad took a particularly unflattering photo, which still haunts me today, when I was 15 years old. The photo is taken from the side and my nose looks like a ski jump. I can still imagine that picture in my head and all I can think is yuck, disgusting, gross and how unattractive.

What happened to MY nose? Everyone in my family has a great nose, so why is mine the way it is?

Nose Job Patient Diary: Jessie

April 21st, 2015

For the next few weeks we will be following the story of Jessie, our patient that went through the process of considering and ultimately deciding to have a rhinoplasty or “nose job.” She has graciously agreed to  record her thoughts about her experience. Follow her story and watch her surgery videos as this series unfolds. Meet Jessie:

Hi, my name is Jessie and I have chosen to contribute to Dr. Bashioum’s Blog about my rhinoplasty surgery, because I want others to understand how the process works from a real person, not from a reality television show. I have researched the procedure online and I have been finding a lot of conflicting information, which has left me confused and a little nervous about undergoing the procedure. My hope in doing this blog is to allow potential patients to have a real patient perspective about the procedure, the recovery, and the end result and hopefully the great changes this brings to my life.

I have found that by revealing my up and coming surgery to others, it has caused various reactions.     People tell me I am going to look like I got into fight, or say the surgeon is going to take a hammer to my nose and beat on me. Yikes! Others say this surgery is going to change my looks and no one is going to recognize me. Some people tell me to go ahead with the surgery, while others say it is a waste of money and vain of me to go through with the procedure. Thank goodness that in the end, I am only doing this surgery for me.

Please check back to follow my story.
