Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually in the United States on the last Monday in May. The holiday originated to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the American Civil War, formerly known as Decoration Day. Today Memorial Day is a day of remembering the all men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Spending time in California has broadened our family’s horizons on many things and sushi has become one of our new favorite treats. The beautiful plate of Spanish mackerel in this photo was expertly prepared by the chef at local hot spot Sushi Yozu in Toluca Lake.
