Facial Sculpting Gains Popularity
The Los Angeles Times reports that the number of Rhinoplasties surgeries soar in 2009 with a catchy title: What recession? Bring on the Rhinoplasty. According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), a recent survey confirms the report and revealed a 74% increase the number of rhinoplasties (nose surgeries) performed last year. I certainly agree with the number, as I have seen a dramatic increase in the number of patients choosing rhinoplasty. We have actually posted several rhinoplasty patient diaries, like Lisa’s Blog featured last week on this blog.
Rhinoplasty represents the cornerstone of facial sculpting. It is the most popular facial sculpting surgery followed by chin, cheek, and jaw implants. There has also been an increase in all cosmetic surgery operations this year, another trend that seems to continue.
Another group, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, reports that most common surgical procedure last year was liposuction. However, tummy tucks and eyelid surgery are gaining ground as popular requests.
Finally, injectable materials like fat, or hyaluronic acid manufactured by Restane and Juvederm are frequently used quick fixes and offer an alternative to more invasive facial rejuvenation surgery. The most fashionable of these procedures is lip enlargement or plumping using hyaluronic acid. This simple office procedure diminishes lip wrinkles and offers the patient an immediate improvement, without the significant recovery time.
