Fall Crop of Apples
October 11th, 2013
Picking the last of the Fall apple varieties from my garden. I have a bucketful of “Fiesta” apples, a nice crisp and tart variety that tastes similar to MN Landscape Arboretum developed, “Honeycrisp.” They ripen later in the season and are one of the last of my crops to harvest, as the gardening season comes to a close in Minneapolis. The ground cover seen in the photo underneath all my apples tress is the carpet of fraise des bois or alpine strawberry.
Dr. Bashioum’s Garden: Golden Raspberries
August 10th, 2013
Just as I predicted last week, the golden raspberries are ripe now and ready for a bowl of cereal and milk. Unlike the black raspberries, they are not well suited for making into jam. I usually pick a bowlful to share, while eating my weight in them while I’m still in the garden! Like all fruit, the sun does most of the work.
