Top 5 Body Complaints: #2- Jowls
November 1st, 2010
The development of jowls is one of the early signs of aging, along with laugh lines and laxity in the neck (commonly referred to as turkey waddle). Women presenting with this concern, are unhappy with this change in their facial appearance. Correcting jowls is generally done as part of an overall facelift procedure, but the surgery may be done alone . Droopy jowl correction may be accomplished by trimming fat or by repositioning it at a higher level, then adjusting the skin for a more youthful appearance. Jowls may also be somewhat disguised by injecting fat along the jaw line to plump up the area, or by a combination of the procedures that I have mentioned. According to ASAPS statistics, there were approximately 95,000 jowl rejuvenation surgeries performed in the U.S. for 2009, representing a major component of facelift surgery.
Top 5 Body Complaints: #1-Breasts too Small
October 28th, 2010
Without a doubt, this is the most common body part complaint I hear. Nationwide women express their sensitivities about their diminutive breast size to plastic surgeons. Breast enlargement surgery is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure in the US according to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, ASPS. I find this true in my own practice, as well.
Current simplified surgery makes breast enlargement a straight forward procedure. Through an inconspicuous 3/4 inch incision, a breast implant can be placed beneath the pectoralis muscle. Size is determined by the patient. Most of my patients have their pain controlled with a combination of Celebrex and Tylenol. No drains or tubes are necessary. I suggest not wearing a bra for about a week, in an effort to further reduce pain. Breast augmentation surgery is a commonly requested procedure for the Mommy make-overs. Patients often report a greater sense of positive body image and confidence following this surgery.
