Introducing Dr. Mahsa Moghaddam

I am excited to join Dr. Bashioum and his team. What drew me to join this practice is Dr. Bashioum’s philosophy of care, which puts patients first. I admire and share his passion for helping patients regain the confidence that will allow them to live well. I also am fascinated by Dr. Bashioum’s diverse interests and wouldn’t mind acquiring his green thumb over the next few years!

I was born in Tehran, Iran and I was raised in Rome, Italy where I lived with my family until I was sixteen years old. I finished high school in Madison, NJ and completed a dual degree in Biology and Psychology at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

After graduating from college in 1996, I worked as a Research Assistant designing study protocols for large pharmaceutical companies, but rapidly grew restless with the politics and ethics of animal research. I left my job, started working as a surgical technician and lived in Miami, Denver and Los Angeles before moving to Sydney, Australia for medical school in 2001.

While living in Australia I took every opportunity I could to explore this beautiful, rugged country. I traveled from the Gold Coast, to the Hunter and Barossa valleys, to Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, the Indian Ocean at Monkey Mia and to the remote Aboriginal community on Galiwinku, a small island off the coast of Darwin. I spent a month there providing medical care to the local native population.

I returned to the United States in 2005 to complete a five-year Residency in General Surgery and a two-year Residency in Plastic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During training I met and fell in love with my partner, Rory who is a General Surgeon. In 2012 we moved to Toronto, Canada to pursue specialty training in Pediatric Craniofacial surgery and Hepatobiliary surgery (Rory). We have a son, Evan and he is now a healthy and very active 11 month old. Minnesota is our home and we are very excited to be back in the Twin Cities.

Outside of work my passions are spending time with Evan, traveling, reading, hiking, cooking and enjoying wine with friends. I am an amateur photographer whose dream it is to write for National Geographic someday. I look forward to when Evan will be old enough for us to explore the world all together.
